Housley Group was founded in 1980 by Robert (Bob) D. Housley. Bob started out with a single service wire plow and just one employee. They worked hard during burying telephone drops for a major telecommunications company throughout Texas.
Learn moreIn 1986, Robert Kevin Housley, son to Bob and Mona Housley, joined Housley Group. He was assigned managerial responsibilities for many key segments of the business. Over time Kevin was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President responsible for all financial, business and day-to-day operations of Housley Group. He fervently worked for the success of the business for 20 years before his passing. Read more about his legacy by clicking the link below.
Learn moreIn 1989 Housley Communications started a three-year project working for Ericsson Telecom updating the entire Illinois State University telecommunication system. We built a new underground conduit and manhole distribution system through the middle of the campus, completely rewired every building on the campus (120) and set approximately 2500 new direct dial digital telephone sets. A $3.5 million dollar project, it was Housley’s first multimillion dollar project.
Learn moreIn 1993 Housley Communications Inc. began their first OSP Construction Single Source Provider (SSP) contract. Since then, we have been continually awarded the contract for exchanges throughout Texas for three of the industry's major telecommunication companies.
Learn moreBeginning in 1994 through 1998 Housley Communications provided expat’s and in country support to Telefonos De Mexico, in modernization of over 100 central offices in and around Mexico City. We provided main frame engineering and board to board testing including documentation and record keeping while maintaining service throughout the project. At it’s peak we had more than 50 expat engineers and 100 in country technicians.
Since our first purchase of the Vermeer D6 in the mid 90's, we have been a leader in the Horizontal Directional Drilling marketplace for decades. We are able to bore any type of soil, ranging from sand to granite and with diameters up to 42 inches.
In 1998 and 1999 Housley Communications provided approximately 50 US expat engineers in support of Telkom S.A. cellular telecommunications infrastructure build. We provided services from central office equipment design to tower locations. From Cape Town to Pretoria, many locations were remote and required extensive travel.

PRESIDENT & CEO
Robert Daniel Housley, founder and owner of Housley Group passed away December 15, 2020 peacefully in his home.
Before starting his successful business, Bob spent his early years devoted to his family's rice and soybean farm in Arkansas. He acquired his pilot's license at the age of 17 which proved to be a lifelong passion he continued into his eighties. Bob married Mona Saunders in 1958 and had two children, Cindee and Kevin. He began working for Texas International Aviation in 1962, leading his family to travel and live all over the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Texas, until his transfer to San Angelo, Texas in 1976.
Bob founded Housley Group. October 1, 1980 based upon four basic principles: honesty, integrity, quality, and professionalism. He was responsible for the overall growth, direction, and operating of the company for over forty years. He always maintained a high degree of personal involvement in the daily operations and continual growth of the company. His innovative nature, passion for customer satisfaction, and personal relationships he developed with his employees has been instrumental in establishing Housley Communications Inc. as an industry leader in providing construction and technical services for many of the nation's major telecommunications companies and beyond--with projects reaching Mexico and Africa.
Despite being a self-made businessman, philanthropist, husband, and father, his greatest accomplishment was being "Boppa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those who have had the privilege to work with Bob can all agree that at Housley Group. they are not just merely employees, but a part of a family. Because of a truly great man, Bob Housley's legacy will continue to live on throughout the company he cherished.
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
Family, friends and co-workers mourn the loss of Robert Kevin Housley who died on April 20, 2008, at the age of 45.
Kevin was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on July 30, 1962, to Bob and Mona Housley. He graduated from Central High School in San Angelo, attended Southwest Texas State, where he met his future wife Vicki McKinney, and went on to earn his degree at Angelo State University.
Kevin was part of the gubernatorial campaign of U.S. Representative Tom Loeffler and then served as a staff member for Texas Governor Bill Clements. He later worked for U.S. Representative Dick Armey. In 1986, Kevin joined Housley Group, where he was assigned managerial responsibilities for many key segments of the business. Over time, Kevin was promoted to the position of Executive Vice President responsible for all financial, business and day-to-day operations of Housley Group.
Kevin contributed greatly to the growth and success of the company. He had a great appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices of his father, Bob, to build and grow the company to the industry leader it is today. Kevin was quick to take the lead on the development of new and unique projects company-wide. He was a very good motivator of people and took great pride in developing employees to reach their best potentials. Kevin’s dedication to customer service and providing the highest quality products and services to our customers were strictly observed throughout the company.
In addition to his dedication to his family and the family business, Kevin was an active member of his community, serving as a board member and sponsor of the West Texas Boys Ranch, Angelo Civic Theater, Sonrisas Therapeutic Riding Center, St. Luke United Methodist Church, Concho Country Emmaus Community and the Texas Main-Anjou Association. His interest in public service also inspired him to serve on the school board of the Christoval Independent School District. His interest in State government service prompted Kevin to seek election, in 2006, to the Texas House of Representatives. In addition to all his other personal commitments to others, Kevin was a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church, speaking regularly in churches across West Texas.
The following quote from Texas State Representative Drew Darby does an excellent job of summing up the life of Robert Kevin Housley: “Kevin is a shining example of involvement as a community leader, a husband, a father, a son. He practiced what we hear about in church on Sunday. He lived that way.”
